Build Process

We use quality products and materials sourced from New Zealand.

All of our tiny homes are based on a steel frame design.

Trailer and sub-floor

We source our trailers from Bay Engineering Solutions in Tauranga.  These trailers are galvanised steel, triple axle, split shift, strong and lightweight and are fully road legal, registered and warranted.  The base is filled with a 70mm thick layer of insulating foam to keep it warm and finished with a strong 18mm plywood floor.

The trailer can be detached from the tiny house once on site by jacking up the tiny house at each corner with the supplied lifting jacks.

Steel frame

All of our homes use steel frames that are strong, lightweight and very accurate.  We find that steel is much more durable when compared to wood frames, transport much better and provide a very strong foundation for the home. We thermal break the steel between the frame and the external cladding to ensure the house is warm and dry.

Wrap and Cavity battens

We wrap the frame with building wrap and seal all joins and edges. This ensures a watertight shell before the exterior cladding is fitted.  We use lightweight cavity battens with a thermal break in both the walls and roof creating a ventilation cavity between the wrap and the exterior, keeping the house dry and healthy.

Joinery and Cladding

All of our joinery is locally made and is double glazed, powder coated aluminium with specified high wind zone as standard to ensure transporting the home will be hassle free. UPVC windows are also an option and have very high thermal qualities making them a good choice for colder climates.

Different cladding options are available depending on the look and feel desired.  Wood highlights adds a nice touch or alternatively some decorative corten panels.  The roof and gutter are colour steel and available in different profiles and colour choices.

Interior linings

We start with plumbing/gas and electrical layout which are installed by certified professionals (Certificate of Compliance is issued on completion).  Thick Eco thermal insulation (90mm wall and 105mm ceiling) is also installed at this stage.  We line the walls with 9mm lightweight high grade poplar plywood panels which are sized in a CNC machine for accuracy, also meaning the panels fit flush together with a nice chamfer on each join, both flat or grooved panel options are available. Negative detail is also an option for the linings with the choice of a black or white joining strip. We then finish with skirting, scotia and architraves before painting the walls or alternatively finished with a clear lacquer/oil.

Kitchen and appliances

Our kitchens and cabinetry are designed and custom made by our good friends at Pete’s Kitchens in Auckland.  The build quality is superb!  All cabinetry is made using high grade materials and the finished product looks stunning. There is a wide selection of colours and textures to choose from and every component is custom made to fit into our tiny homes.

Our kitchens come fitted with a Rangehood extractor fan and stainless steel sink and tapware.  We can supply appliances or you can choose your own, but we recommend either gas or electric oven.  Our kitchens are designed to also fit a dishdrawer and a full size fridge/freezer.

Bathroom

The bathroom is supplied with endless hot water via the Rinnai A26 califont.  It comes fitted with all high quality tapware, a 600mm or 750mm vanity, extractor fan, heated towel rail and a full size 900 x 900 shower as standard.  Toilet choices available are composting/incinerating/dehydrating/flushing depending on your needs.  We also recommend a showerdome to reduce bathroom moisture.
